1st time I stepped into this place was on Mother's Day (dated 10th May 2009). A well planned day to end with dinner @ Greenwood Fish Market & Bistro. Of course, we had to book a place.
Upon arrival, we were ushered to table 1. Walked through a corridor which was a fish selling area (smells very fishy), passed a partition with no door, and table 1 was right beside the partition (note:with no door).
Oh My Gosh, our table was right beside the "FISH MARKET", fish stench was horrifying. We requested to change place but due to the fact that it was Mother's Day, we were informed the place was fully booked. It was too late to make arrangements to another place for dinner, thus we took seat. Ambience was horrible, fish stench filled the air.
Ordered and food was served. The food looked good, smells nice, but till then, we could still smell the stench coming from fish market right beside.
While Chewing the food, the stench kept sweeping in, PLS IMAGINE THIS... IT FELT LIKE EATING RAW, DEAD, FISHES. GROSS upon GROSS.
The bread which came as appetisers also smell like dead fishes. GROSS.
IT WAS A PLACE FOR FISHERMEN. not customers.
We finished our meal in a hurry and left. (WHO wants to STAY long in a place like that)
On top of that, food was expensive, for the type of ambience provided, its way too expensive. the waiters were not local, had a hard time understanding them and vice versa. Gosh...
and in Conclusion: NOT A PLACE TO REVISIT.

lovely food and polite service staff.
Overall a very pleasant experience.
And most important, really fresh food. Thumbs up!
Great food, quaint little restaurant

Out of all the food that night, the two that stood out were the foie gras with sea scallops (around $28) and the red miso cod (around $33). The foie gras came in two huge slabs and it went really well with the fresh but simple sea scallops. Sinful but delicious. The red miso cod came in one huge slab, and boy was it juicy! Just the right amount of oiliness, not overcooked and not overseasoned... we were blown away! Other than that we had some oysters, one from australia and one from new zealand. Both were $3.50 each, not sure it was worth the price though, I need a second opinion from a oyster connoisseur to find out.
Pricey, but if you want good food check this place out!
yummy fresh seafood!
Spent: $65 per pax
We made a reservation for 830pm and requested for a private seating, which they did manage to provide, right at the end of the restaurant. Ambience was good with no overly loud music or chatter.
We had three starters - some oysters, salmon sashimi and foie gras with sea scallops. The sashimi and oysters (especially) were really fresh, though not out of our expectations. My date savoured the foie gras (I'm not a fan). The sea scallops though were delicious.. the sweetness of fresh seafood! As for main courses, we had the aglio olio, which was average. However, the red miso cod took our breaths away. The sauce may have been a little too salty, but the texture of the cod made up for everything else. The grilled brinjals as sides, were simple yet tasty.
This is my second time returning to this place (had fish and chips the previous visit) and I will definitely still come back for more!

Disappointing. I really banged by boy's head hard on the wall for this one. My entire family left the meal dissatisfied after all my prep talk on the raving reviews. The food wasn't good at all. It was ordinary and some actually tasted blend. I ordered almost all that has been recommended but it really WASN'T THAT GOOD. This place is a no-return for me and I think my family would agree. Usually I would bring my folks to try yummy, less generic, less "franchised" restaurants on special occasions and according to my folks and bro, this was the worst by far.
Guess it's different strokes for different folks. Sorry guys, Greenwood just didn't do it for me.

Tried it for the very first time tonight and it was quite a fabulous and awesome experience, having to get the tuesday special, where the oysters came with a $1.00 price tag. Though its $1.00, they never failed serving fresh and good oyster that you make you keep wanting more. Besides the oyster, the seafood soup and the house fish & chip wasn't too bad. Having being a seafood lover, and being able to get fresh seafood filling my tummy, i must say its a place you won't wanna miss if you love seafood as much as me.

VERY good.
Previously, I'd be hardpressed to name a standalone restaurant serving western-style seafood menu items. Especially in Singapore, where the main feasts generally lie in black pepper/chilli crabs, cereal prawns and garlic clams in bamboo shoots etc. So imagine my surprise when I discovered this quaint gem smack in the middle of a Bukit Timah neighbourhood.
Been here four times now, and I must say - the food never disappoints! Transport might be difficult; you have to trek in a good 5-10 minutes as it's nestled relatively deep into the neighbourhood.
Ambience/service
The resto is very tiny (max 20 seaters). Most of the customers are repeat customers/regulars. The resto gave me a very casual and relaxed dining experience. Very interesting too - as you have to venture through a boutique fish market to reach your seats.
Food
Hot Seafood Platter
Plentiful! The oysters were really good. The buttery dressing complemented the oysters very well. Soft shell grabs were fried with perfect amount of batter resulting in a crispy and crunchy batch. Loved the clams - all garlicky and yummy. And omg, the prawns! Flavourful variety of seafood - a must try!
Oysters
I've tried most of the fresh oysters they offer in their menu. New Zealand, France etc. All were very very fresh. Went well with a squeeze of lemon and sprinkle of rock salt. My dinner partner and I went through almost a dozen of them before finally starting our meal.
Seafood cream linguine with caviar & champagne
Sooooooooooo good. The prawns were tender and succulent! A must try if you're a big fan of cream base pasta.
Dessert
We had the creme brulee, i think. Was pretty good!
Drinks
We opted for a bottle of white to complement the seafood theme we had ticking off in our dinner. Couldn't remember which but it was good too! All chilly and refreshing... hmmm
Other times we had the whole lobster (priced at over 160$) which was amazing. It couldn't get any more tender than that!
Calamari was good. Fish and chips were great too (apparently it is the main attraction of Greenwood Fish bistro)

I love the way they have designed the place. It gives me great memories of a place that I know back in Australia. Although I must say that the service can be improved a little bit.
The food is good, but that is what you would expect from a place that boast fresh seafood and charge you for it.
Still a place that I would recommend to my friends and I hope to be back there again.

Been there, food is good, but the service is something else altogether. I suppose the authenticity of the place means that they cannot provide better service, but ....
Maybe my expectations are just too high, after all the great reviews. May be a bit harsh here, but I believe I am right.

dinner was the hot seafood platter served on a huge square frosty plate that made the succulent prawns, juicy mussels, crunchy octopus, sweet baby lobster, smoky yummy kebabs, crispy calamari look bigger than what they are (the portion is really huge, the seafood items are also very big).
the food was simply fantastic even though if the platter was a litter bit hotter, it would have sent me to the moon :)
great place to go again, while most people would aim for their tuesday for those freshly shucked oysters, I am considering monday night, cos it's boston live lobster night, why not? mind you, the lobsters are not from our neighbouring countries :P
corkage was $15, we brought one of our best whites to accompany the platter, it was certainly bliss...

This little bistro reverberates noisily with the hustle and bustle of a fish market. And what a fish market it is! Open the unassuming doors and rows of scaly eyes stare at you accusingly from their icy graves. Walk right pass them if its a cooked meal you are looking for.
Quick note: Opposite the fish display is the takeout counter. If you are in the mood for a short meal, you can take away fish & chips for only $12. Ask for more of their chilli sauce. Cant place my finger on what goes into it but the tangy taste goes really well with the fish. $12 for fresh fresh fish fillet and fries? Cant really ask for more.
But herein lies the cake. Sit down and look through the menu. Several things just pop out at you. Try the pan fried orange roughy (factiod: orange roughys can live up to 80 years old, I was wondering whether that fella I was chewing up lived longer that I did) which they only have seasonally. Algio Olio is another must try. Think excessive amounts of garlic and olive oil. This is not for the faint hearted. Fortune awaits the bold though. If you like garlic like me, this is the dish for you. Unfortunately, on the two occasions I have been there, the cod was sold out. Although I have yet to taste it, I can imagine it would be sublime based on what I have seen of this place so far.
Have not been to Greenwood FM&B in more than a month. Cravings for garlicky algio olio and smooth fatty succulent orange roughy haunt my dreams. Another visit is due soon.

I've been to this place twice. Great place to have dinner with your close ones with the great ambience, service and not to mention great food. Unless the person you bring along dislikes seafoods and pastas, you'll never have a unhappy diner.
The location of the place is simply wonderful with it being hidden away in from the hustle and bustle of Singapore, and then there's the restaurant which again is hidden behind the market place front of the restaurant.
AlWAYS order the cold seafood platter which costs $69+++ which serves 2 as a main course or 4 as a starter. I on the other hand ignored the warnings of the waiter and ordered it as a started for 2. It came with fresh oysters, salmon with caviar, cooked lobster and clams. I would show you a video clip of my friend's expression if I could.
For my MAIN main course, I had the creamy seafood pasta which came with nicely cooked prawns, mussels and scallops. The scallop was not your usual tiny piece of scallop but 2 big round and succulent all in the properly done cream sauce.
Dessert was nothing to shout about, probably because I'm not one with a sweet tooth.
The bill came up to about $80 per pax for me and my friend on both visits. It may seem pricy, but when you think of the quality AND quantity of the food, it was all well worth it. Throw that in with excellent service and its a place you would visit time and time again. Just remember to book in advance and NEVER NEVER sit outside. spoils the whole experience.
I'm going for the oyster night later today. Lovely!

The battered NZ pink snapper is great. The crust is very fragrant and crispy.
The fish is very fresh.
The seafood chowder is good too, with fresh ingredient.
I was there on tuesday, it was oyster day! I was crazy... We two girls ordered 27 oysters. Each and every oyster was fresh and juicy.
The service is very personalized as there were only a max of about 14 tables indoor. Food was served fast and piping hot.
On the whole , great experience.
The only reason why it was not given perfect ten, because we could only reserve at 630pm or 8pm due to limited seats. And due to the restaurants specialty, the choices are quite limited (mainly seafood only) as compared to usual western food restaurant.
Quality is definitely there and they really live up to their name!

it was a monday evening and it was PACKED.
we ordered the orange roughy and the house fish and chips...
prices are abit steep but the quality is there. the fish was fresh and the seasoning went well with the fish. the batter was crispy and light. yumm..
you'll see a lot of business suits here, after work, looking for a place with good food and wine. wine glasses clinking, talk on the stock market, compliments to the chef. yes, it's a yuppie place, but hey, it's a classy yuppie place with good food.
haven't tried any of the other stores around greenwood. a quaint secret place with nice interior decor and good food.. think i'll be coming back soon again...

Three of us went to Greenwood. its behind NJC. Quite hard to go if you do not drive.
The external part of the restaurant does not really have the appeal, like the name implies, Greenwood fish market. It is literally a fish market where u can buy their fish, prawn, oyster. But the interior part is diff (see picture) the lights are dim jus nice and its rather small, so make your reservations before going.
Greenwood is quite famous for their fish & chips, many types of diff fish like snapper, sole filet, salmon, barramundi, tusk fish, yellow fin tuna, nz pink snapper and so on. They also had diff style of cooking the fish like pan-seared, baked, steamed, char-chilled, battered or crumbed. Cool huh? haha.
So we had quite a dilemma in choosing what fish we wanted. Above picture is battered snapper($19.95) based on recommendation from the enthu staff.
Had a hard time understanding the differences between battered and crumbed. Anyway, battered snapper is good and crispy, but have to finish it fast because its not so nice when it get cold unlike the crumbed sole filet. Both fish & chips come with a healthy side serving of chips and vegies. The chips are good, but the vegies are even better. We have no idea what they do to the vegies, but it’s really good and you want to have more. 4.5 out of 5
Next up is crumbed sole filet ($19.95) also on recommendation. By the way, although both chips are diff fish, but i can’t really tell the diff. lol. From what the staff say, you can tell crumbed from battered because crumbed is fried with bread crumb flour. O well, its quite good also, but i think snapper is a tiny bit better than the sole filet. 4 out of 5
Pasta spag soft shell crab with chili crab sauce ($19.95), unlike the pasta at pastamania, The one here is really pasta. Haha. Soft crab is nice, but too small ! O well. 4 out of 5
Overall good place for fresh fish and seafood, highly recommended just that it is hard to access if you are not driving. We did not have any desserts there because we had already decided to head to Island Creamery for ice cream !

Unexpectedly good!
SERVICE: I love it when service is decent - from the moment I called to try and book a table on their (apparently extremely popular) oyster night – that’s Tuesday night by the way – to the proffered apologies when we hustled and finished dinner in under 40 minutes in order to make way for the 8 o’clock seating.
FOOD: Skip the oysters – they weren’t really the highlight of the meal, and go straight to the mains.
Order to share: in descending order of popularity
Orange Roughy (Roughly spelt like that): It’s in season right now, served with pumpkin mash and grilled tomatoes. The best of the lot we had, and worth every penny.
Spaghetti Aglio e Olio: This is probably the most deceptively simple pasta dish around. GFM nailed this one perfectly (many other restaurants have tried and failed spectacularly).
Fish & Chips: No surprises with this one, a decent-sized portion of fish and tasty chips. (For half the eat-in price, you can get this to go, and it still tastes just as good when you get home.)
We’ll be back! On another night when we don’t have to rush quite as much, that is.
